The Port of Altamira continues to be among the main ports in Mexico due to its high demand in foreign trade; At the end of March, 5.3 million tons were mobilized, with 665 vessels being serviced.
In the handling of containerized cargo, there was an increase of 7% thanks to the continuous movement of merchandise by this means during this period, reaching a movement of 1.7 million tons, which translates to 215,138 TEUs, reflecting an increase 8% compared to the previous year.
In bulk cargo, 703,290 tons were operated in the handling of mineral bulk, due to the high volumes of iron ore, fluorite and ilmenite, and 316,958 tons of agricultural bulk were recorded, derived from the handling of corn, distilled dry grain and wheat. .
Regarding loose general cargo, 1.8 million tons were moved; Also within this category is the movement of automobiles, reporting 136,426 units, which reflects an increase of 80% compared to the previous year.
Finally, in the management of Petrochemical Fluids, the mobilization of 836,743 tons was recorded due to the handling of monovinyl chloride, styrene, monoethylene glycol, butadiene, caustic soda, among others.
This has been the result of adequate coordination between port actors and the continuous modernization of the Port in its maneuvering systems and equipment, offering more efficient and higher productivity services.
