Thanks to its excellent infrastructure, the Port of Altamira is distinguished for being one of the five most important commercial ports in Mexico. With the reception and movement in all its business lines, it closes the month of September with more than 15.6 million tons moved.
One of the cargoes with the greatest impact at the end of that month was containerized cargo with an operation of more than 5.4 million tons, reaching a movement of 636 thousand 185 TEUS, where different types of merchandise predominate, such as auto parts, wood and resins.
As for bulk, minerals play an important role in cargo matters, adding a total of 3.7 million tons as of September; On the other hand, agricultural bulk has had a favorable increase with a movement of more than 725 thousand tons of products such as corn, wheat, rice, among others.
Another cargo that registered a significant movement was general loose cargo, with more than 2.9 million tons moved. Another type of cargo that is part of the different business lines handled within the Port of Altamira is finished cars, which, thanks to the infrastructure and personnel of the companies installed in the Port, reached a total of 246,403 units.
At the end of September, petrochemical fluids reported a growth of 2% compared to the same period of the previous year, accumulating a total of more than 2.7 million tons, which leads to consider the Port of Altamira as the largest petrochemical cluster. great of Mexico.
Finally, these results have been possible thanks to the excellent coordination with which the port authorities and terminals have carried out the operation of the vessels, resulting in the attention of more than 1,418 so far this year.
