Mérida, Yucatán was held the XVIII Annual Congress Shipping Agents “Trade Effects before the new government.” This important event took place from 4 to 5 of October.
The welcome was given by the Governor of Yucatán, Rolando Zapata and Jose Bello Cristian Lira Bennett, President of the Mexican Association of Shipping Agents, AC (AMANAC). During the conference, Mexican maritime industry could analyze the main challenges and opportunities for this sector as result of the changes in federal government as well as learn about the initiatives proposed by top industry players for the incoming years.
Representatives of the major shipping lines operating in the country, port terminals, foreign trade groups and associations, forwarders, trucking companies, port authorities, and the Ports and Merchant Marine Coordination, among others, participate and contributed with interesting proposals and comments on the issues presented.
The Port Director of Altamira, José Julian Dip Leos, gave a presentation about the recent advances in infrastructure, trends and challenges of the National Port System.
Also during the conference other relevant topics were discussed for example different ways to strengthening the competitiveness of Mexican foreign trade by the modernization and use of electronic systems for paper work facilitation and the development of a new flexible legal framework capable to adapt fast and attend the demands of costumers in a global market.
